Third day of Formula One preseason testing at Jerez saw three world champions take to the track for the first time.

Fernando Alonso, 2005 and 2006 champion, was joined by Sebastian Vettel, 2010 and 2011 champion, and Lewis Hamilton, 2008 champion.

Nico Rosberg set the fastest time of the day in his Mercedes GP, first of the cars to break into the one minute 17 second bracket in the three days of testing.

Romain Grosjean, returning to Lotus Renault, was second fastest with a one minute 18.419.

Vettel and Hamilton followed in their Red Bull Racing and McLaren-Mercedes cars respectively.

Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne made his debut in the Toro Rosso in fifth place. Bruno Senna did the same for Williams F1, taking over from Pastor Maldonado.

New recruit Geido Vand der Garde was fulfilling his role as test driver for the Caterham F1 team while Jules Bianchi had a tough time in the Force India after going off the track. The team did not have the required part to repair his car.
