Anne Tolley was on hand to crush the Nissan Laurel

The first ‘boyracer’ car has been destroyed this morning under street racing destruction laws.

Police Minister Anne Tolley was on hand to ceremoniously push the button and crush the Nissan Laurel.

Ms Tolley says the vehicle belongs to a young man who's hit the limit of three convictions for illegal street racing.

She believes the crushing, the first under boy racer laws, will send a clear message to the 116 young people sitting on their second strike.

"They will get caught, they will lose their cars and we will crush them."

The legislation was introduced by former Police Minister Judith Collins three years ago.

Great he's got no car but will probably get another one. Why not sell it and off set some of the thousands of dollars of outstanding fines these boy and girl racers get and don't pay. Or give the money to charity like St Johns who mop up the mess made if they crash. No problem with them racing but DO IT LEGALLY then no harm.

so guess i wont let them catch me

most of the cars people that do stuff like this cops cant keep up with

I keep it to the track these days but if I wanted to when I had my skyline there is no way they could catch me and my race car has 500kw and the running gear to take corners at 200+km all its going to do is put more people at risk

@Ben Phillips. I'm fairly sure cars aren't allowed to have anything in them that when being crushed, may explode, catch fire or shoot off and potentially endangering anyone nearby.

Why don't the government do the same with drunk driver repeat offenders. Then they wouldn't be able to get back behind the wheel of a car and destroy someone elses life.

Great, the rest of us abide by the law, there needs to be consequences for breaking the law.
