Shotputter Valerie Adams is on her way back to New Zealand to officially receive her long-awaited Olympic gold medal.

Adams has had a look at the medal but it will be presented to her in a ceremony in Auckland tomorrow night that's after her Belarussian rival Nadzeya Ostapchuk was disqualified for using banned steroids.

“I know that Wednesday is going to be very special,” says Adams.

An excited Adams has had a look and touch of the medal, but she’s also eager to see family members that she has not seen since March.

Hamish Bond, Eric Murray, Mahe Drysdale – all London 2012 Olympic gold medallists – are expected to attend the ceremony.
