A waterspout has been seen moving across Auckland Harbour this afternoon, alarming onlookers and sparking a warning for boaties.

The waterspout was seen near the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

The National Weather Service defines a waterspout as a tornado over water.

WeatherWatch is warning boaties to avoid the harbour.

The waterspout has the potential to flip yachts and small boats, according to WeatherWatch.

Yes this footage was shot from Belmont in the North Shore. Just so happened to have camera in the car. It had to be the most surreal thing ive seen.

Yup! I agree it is a really cool shot! i haven't seen one either. I never knew there was such a thing as a waterspout. I only thought there were Tornadoes.
