Health Minister Tony Ryall says he'll have to look at the bill before deciding if he supports it

Labour MP Louisa Wall’s private member’s bill legalising same-sex marriage was pulled out of the ballot yesterday and will start its journey through Parliament.

Most MPs spoken to by reporters were undecided but there were some who were staunch in the side they will take.

Most notably against the bill was NZ First MP Richard Prosser who gave a definitive “no”, saying it goes against the institution of marriage.

Conservative Party leader Colin Craig has also opposed the bill saying it is "not intelligent to pretend that homosexual relationships are normal".

His fellow party member Brendan Horan says there were far more important things to worry about but would consult his party before making his decision.

Government ministers Bill English, Tony Ryall, Jonathan Coleman, Amy Adams, David Carter and Steven Joyce all said they hadn’t given it much thought.

Green MP Kevin Hague says he and his 14-strong party will support the bill.

United Future leader Peter Dunne says he supports gay marriage and will vote for the bill in its first reading.

Maori Party co-leader Pita Sharples says the time has come for same-sex marriage and he will vote in favour for the bill.

National MP Jonathan Young says he would consult his electorate before saying anything but his colleague Tau Henare says he would support it.

In response to Jordan's promotion of the video from Matthew Vines, I also recommend that people view feedback from others about that video. Google lists numerous critiques on that one-sided video. Last week, the Christian Post examined the perspectives of the wider Christian community here: http://www.christianpost.com/news/theologians-find-vines-homosexuality-is-not-a-sin-thesis-not-persuasive-82341/

I am very disappointed in Colin Craig's stance on gay marriage. As a gay christian myself (And yes you can be gay and follow Jesus - he did, after all, die for ALL of us which is pretty all inclusive right there), for many years I felt like an alien in church.

I felt like I wasn't accepted not only by society, but the very people in my church who were supposed to be supportive and empathetic towards me. I found this very Unchristian-like of them.

After coming to terms with my sexuality after almost 10 years, I then began researching and delving into the 6 clobber passages in the bible that some people use against LGBT people. Wow. I have learned A LOT.

I won't bore you guys with what I have found because I could write pages on it all, but these resources are what I have found to be eye opening and very useful to me personally:

"Unchristian" by David Kinnaman (This book talks about the christian faith being hypocritical among other things. If you are a christian that is open to truth, you would agree that we're not all perfect, we're all sinners, and we are hypocrites. Amazing book)

"The Children Are Free" by Rev. Jeff Miner and John Tyler Connoley (Book on reexamining the biblical evidence on same-sex relationships. It's a must have book)

I really hope that one day Colin Craig can see the truth in that people's hatred, intolerance and ignorance does not change someones sexuality. NOTHING does.

I hope Louisa Wall's Bill is passed in all three stages not only for equality, but for freedom and love as well.

This liberal is opposed to the idea of any legal recognition of so-called 'consensual adult incest'. I fail to see how child rape is a logical consequence of LGBT rights.

How is the next logical step incestuous marriage? That is an ENTIRELY different matter. If YOU think that is the logical step after same sex marriage, wow, your mind, I shudder to think what goes on in there.

@GLENN Why do people always go there? How is that the next logical step? My advice to you sir is to get your mind out of the gutter and take the logical step towards acceptance and love towards people. just not too far with Family ok sir? :)

At one time homosexuality was not widely accepted but is now and civil unions are allowed. If same sex marriage is goig to be allowed then the next logical step is to allow incestuous marriage. What do the liberals think of that.

Moreover, if National MPs vote this down, it will give LGBT voters and anyone who supports justice and equality for same-sex couples and families an excellent reason to vote Labour or Green at the next election- especially in Auckland.

Still no where saying that God "hates" homosexuality. You PERCEIVE it as hate. Doesn't it say also that God loves all his creatures? And who are we to judge who He loves or hates? Get a grip and don't force YOUR opinion on others.
