New Zealand's world and Olympic shot put champion Valerie Adams has been shortlisted for the 2011 World Athlete of the Year award.
Adams won her third straight world title with a championship record throw of 21.24 metres at Daegu in South Korea at the end of August. She also won gold at the Beijing Olympics.
The International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) on Monday announced 10 male and 10 female candidates selected by an IAAF panel of eight experts for the award. Three male and three female finalists will be chosen before male and female winners are announced on November 12.
The men's shortlist includes Jamaican sprinters Usain Bolt and Yohan Blake.
Blake won the world championships 100m title in Daegu when Bolt was disqualified for a false start.
At the Diamond League last month, Bolt ran the fastest 100m this year and Blake the second ever fastest 200m.
