It's been rumbling and bubbling for hundreds of years, and tourists are still clambering to get close to Vanuatu's Mt Yasur volcano.

New footage has captured the natural wonder putting on the explosive light show that once drew Captain Cook to the region.

There aren't many places in the world you can climb an active volcano, and not many where you can encounter the power of nature like you can on Mt Yasur.

The Tanna Island volcano has been erupting continuously for centuries, and as word spreads, it is becoming a major tourist attraction for Vanuatu.

If it's the first volcano you've ever seen up close, the experience is even more special, some calling it the greatest show on Earth.

But there are no gift shops or carnival rides that come with this attraction, just raw, volatile nature. Giant lava bombs shooting up into the sky are frighteningly beautiful.

The walk along the rim of the volcano is an extreme sport in itself.

The glow of the volcano is apparently what lured Captain Cook to the area in 1774, but back then it was considered taboo to climb it so he never made it up to the rim. Those who have say the experience has you trembling.
