Actress Vera Farmiga has landed the role of Norman Bates' mother in a new Psycho prequel.
Farmiga will lead the cast of new US TV drama Bates Motel, which chronicles how Bates became Alfred Hitchcock's serial killer.
In the classic 1960 thriller, Norman Bates murders single young women who check into the family motel while hiding the remains of his mother.
The role of Norman has yet to be cast.
