Victoria Beckham (Reuters)
Mon, 14 Sep 2009 3:09p.m.
Singer-turned-fashion designer Victoria Beckham teamed fashion-forward thigh high boots with an acid orange and black mini-dress at the Vogue event ‘Fashion’s Night Out’ held on the first night of New York Fashion Week.
The shopping event - an idea conceived by the US style bible's editor Anna Wintour - took place in 13 cities around the world to encourage consumers to start spending money again, folloing plunging sales due to the global financial crisis.
Victoria - who is married to soccer star David Beckham - said she would be leading by example while in the US.
She explained: "Because I'm in New York I'll be buying FAO Schwarz and toys for the kids."
Meanwhile, in London, fellow fashion industry stars got dressed up to join in the global event.
Pregnant model Jourdan Dunn was glowing at a party hosted at the flagship Topshop store on Oxford Street, where she offered style advice.
She said: "When I get dressed in the mornings I'm always in such a rush that all I think about is hurrying up. My best advice is to try and develop your own style and not follow fashion too much."
Meanwhile, photographer Mario Testino was hoping to use his enviable contacts to get his hands on a cut-price Burberry coat.
Referring to Burberry creative director Christopher Bailey, he quipped: "Well I'm thinking tonight I might buy something like a trench coat to celebrate the event. Do you think Christopher would give me a discount?"
Mario was joined by a host of celebrities at the designer brand's Bond Street store, with guests partying into the early hours of the morning.
Supermodels Claudia Schiffer, Yasmin Le Bon and Erin O'Conner looked stunning at the event, as they were joined by Laura Bailey, designer Kate Halfpenny and Daisy Lowe.
Last night marked the opening night of New York Fashion Week, with catwalk shows due to begin later today.
