New Zealand's 22 Victoria Cross recipients are being honoured in New Zealand Post's 2011 Anzac stamp issue.
Each recipient, dating back to the first, Captain Charles Heaphy in 1864, is represented by a portrait image, apart from the most recent, Corporal Willie Apiata, who, while supporting the stamp issue, felt it was inappropriate to have his image on the stamp alongside those of the deceased heroes.
He is represented instead by an image of his medal.
NZ Post's general manager of stamps and collectables, Ivor Masters, said Victoria Cross recipients held a special place in New Zealand's history and their remarkable deeds carried the hallmarks of exceptional courage.
The 60 cent stamps will be available from tomorrow. A book which provides a detailed account of each award will also be available.
