Video: Footballer heroically saved from swallowing his tongue by opposition player in Ukraine

Monday 31 Mar 2014 11:20a.m.

Footballer heroically saved by opponent

Dynamo Kiev captain Oleg Gusev was heroically saved by an opposition player after being knocked unconscious in a collision during a Ukrainian Premier League match against Dnipro.

Gusev collided with Dnipro keeper Denys Boyko while competing for a cross, and looked to be in severe danger of swallowing his tongue before Dnipro midfielder Jaba Kankava stepped in.

The 30-year-old lay unconscious on the turf but Kankava moved quickly to react, forcing his hand down Gusev's throat to clear his airways.

Soon after the collision, medical officials joined Kankava in treating Gusev.
