Thousands of people in Taiwan marked the Lantern Festival - the traditional end of the Lunar New Year holiday.

One of the largest lanterns on display in downtown Taipei was dragon-shaped - to mark the Year of the Dragon in the Chinese calendar.

Dragons of all shapes, sizes and colours featured in this year's festival.

In Pinggxi, in the north of Taipei, people wrote their names on lanterns for good luck in the year ahead and released them into the night sky.

The biggest show, however, was in Changhua county where a dragon-shaped lantern lit up while fireworks exploded above the city skyline.

The Lantern Festival falls on the 15th day of the Chinese lunar calendar.
