Footage showing an Orca whale attacking its handler at Seaworld in San Diego has been released.

The trainer survived the ordeal.

The video, shot in 2006, is being used as evidence in a court case against the park, which is accused of endangering the lives of trainers.

It shows the whale grabbing trainer Ken Peters by his leg and dragging him underwater. When he resurfaces, she grabs him again, repeating the process several times during the attack.

The trainer remains calm, directing his colleagues who are trying to save him.

Eventually they managed to get a net between Peters and the whale, whose calf was in another pool.

Peters eventually returned to the park and still works at Seaworld.

The more I learn about Orca the more disgusted I become at the captivity of these animals. They form close family bonds and are by nature pack animals. The young are taught by their elders in the pod and have terrirtories spanning huge areas. Yet some feel it's ok to keep them seperated and confined.
