Trophies have to earned with the sweat.
Its a disgrace to allow so called hunting from a helicopter to continue in NZ. The Alps are not a theme park, its unethical, immoral and reeks of greed.
Politicians take note where you get your votes from. DOC you are only caretakers of the land for future generations and sadly you are not achieveing this in this ocassion or that of agreeing to drop 1080 poison with the AHB. Listen to the people who you manage the land for and stop looking at the dollar signs.
if you are going to allow a trophy fee for heli hunting to be charged make it an economical amount, say 10k a bull toward administering the trophy managment of Thar in thier home ranges.for every 100 bulls harvested by Foreign clients we would have $1 million dollars toward managing a trophy Thar herd in conjunction with managing the habitat health within the beutiful enviroment they thrive. It's a discrace to use the word hunting in the term heli hunting.Economics show DOC are unable to Trophy manage thar in the southern alps.Introduce profetional Trophy managment.
This is not hunting, and to fire into a cave at an animal you cannot see stupid, so much for identifiy your target, cowboys pitty the bullet did not hit a bit of rock and then nick the hunter for being so stupid, you be the judge..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7vxr2EAZ5Og
NO to heli hunting
DOC should remember this is PUBLIC land not theirs to use as they like,"HeliHunting" is banned in countries from where the "Guide" says these "hunters" come from. Nowhere else is this method of trophy hunting is recognised. There are reports of these Heli operaters chasing animals to exhaustion for the client to shoot whith little effort, even worse is the barbaric practice of deliberately wounding the animal with buckshot from the helicopter to slow the animal down so the client can kill it even easier.Helihunting is on par with bullfighting and dogfighting and the NZ public should not stand for it, and the public should demand that the Minister of Conservation reins her Department in.If this animal cruelty is allowed to continue then heads should roll!
Hey Mr Mike Cuddihy maybee we can put a price on our natives too like the kea, weka, but charge the big bucks for a kiwi, after all rape an pillage is what its all about oh and the dollar of course lets face it if the overseas hunters dont kill them you will with the 1080 or the hell hunting
heli hunters should be locked up
I think that DoC really need to look hard at who funds their activities and who they are supposed to benifit from those funds, certainly not the visitors to this beautiful land regardless of what they want to do here and how much they might pay to do it. This country and it's resources belongs first to New Zealanders who have sweated to make it the standout country it has become and it would behove our Govt Dpartments especially DoC to remember that before they decide to hock off parts of it to well healed O/seas individuals. Tahr, Chamois and Deer as a resourse belong to New Zealanders first and last, pest or not and DoC would do well to remember this and drop heli-hunting altogether. It is clearly not wanted by us nor by the majority of ethical hunters after all we live in a democracy where a majority decides over a minority, RIGHT???BAN Heli-hunting
