Villa Maria Estate has again clinched the title of ‘New Zealand Wine Company of the Year’, in a competition that’s deemed the toughest for New Zealand and Australian wines.
It’s the eleventh time in 12 years that Villa Maria has been awarded the title by Winestate magazine – the most esteemed wine magazine in Australia – at its 2009 Annual Wine Awards.
Commenting on the achievement, Villa Maria owner and Managing Director Sir George Fistonich said:
“Winning Winestate’s New Zealand Wine Company of the Year title for the eleventh time in 12 years is something we would never have thought possible. Ten years of retaining this important title was a great milestone for the company, but to have now moved into a second decade is truly exciting. It’s a tribute to the consistent high quality of wines we are producing.
“More than 10,000 Australian and New Zealand wines are tasted each year by Winestate judges so to be recognised as the best in our field is an exceptional honour.”
This news comes hot on the heels of Villa Maria’s results at the Air New Zealand Wine Awards 2009 last week, where the winery collected 15 gold medals.
