The New York Giants have been crowned Super Bowl champions after defeating the New England Patriots 21-17.

The result was a repeat of the 2008 final with the Giants again snatching the win in the final minute.

Indianapolis might be the home of one of America’s big sporting events but it has never seen anything like this.

The pomp and ceremony of the Indy 500 is nothing compared to Super Bowl 46.

The build-up was all about the two star quarterbacks going head to head and with his super model wife looking on. That pre-match pressure looked like it was getting to Patriots quarterback Tom Brady who made a less than super start and conceding a safety for throwing the ball away on New England’s first possession.

That gave it to Giants quarterback Eli Manning and he made a more assertive start helping New York to an early nine point lead.

But the passes began to hit their mark for the Patriots and they worked their way in for their first touchdown and a 10-9 halftime lead.

As the players retreated to the locker rooms, attention turned to the half time entertainment on the field and off it for the huge television audience.

Despite the 30 minute half time interruption the Patriots continued where they left off.

A pair of field goals kept New York in the game, then after stopping the Patriots with a big interception, Manning took control.

With time ticking down Manning guiding New York 90 yards down field, only for the Patriots to hand the Giants back the lead.

That gave the Patriots enough time to make the winning score, but the last second Hail Mary pass and the Patriots prayers went unanswered.

The Giants repeating their Super Bowl win over the Patriots of four years ago, and claiming the Vince Lombardi trophy for the fifth time.

And there were no surprises over who was named most valuable player.
