A 21-year-old Sydney woman is selling her virginity as part of a controversial documentary, to challenge the way society perceives sex.
She says she can’t understand all the fuss, but her parents and family advocates are horrified.
In an audition tape of perhaps the most disturbing kind, ‘Veronica’ announces; “I’m 21 and I’m a virgin”.
Veronica will sell her virginity at auction to a complete stranger.
“It’s gotten to the stage where, why am I holding on to it? I mean, I’ve heard every story. I don’t know why everyone hypes it up so much,” she said.
The Sydney waitress will travel to the US for the auction, where her virginity will be sold to the highest bidder.
Running the production online is Melbourne filmmaker Justin Sisely. He has promised Veronica $20,000 for appearing in the documentary, as well as 90 percent of the sale price.
“If I was to get $5 million, I could actually help other people with what I’m doing,” she says.
Her parents, however, don’t see it that way.
“This is not on,” they said.
Family advocates are disgusted.
“This is clear prostitution. Lets hope this film never sees the light of day in Australia,” says Steve Fielding of Family First.
“I don’t think she’s thought it through,” says Women’s Advocate Melinda Tankard-Reist.
“I think like many young women they think this is an opportunity to make some money and maybe attract some fame – but it’s the wrong kind of fame and I think she will regret it.”
But Veronica doesn’t think she will regret it.
“If anything I will look back and laugh at it because it was something crazy,” she says.
Two male virgins also auditioned. One was sick of waiting for the right girl and would consider any offers.
The other said he was willing to have sex with a male or female bidder.
