The events on the Central Plateau late last night are yet another reminder of our rather perilous existence -  the natural world really does hold all the cards.

No doubt many in Christchurch feel great sympathy towards those in Tongariro and beyond, and not just because of the volcanic activity - if you have sustained damage as a result of the volcanic eruption then you will have to lodge a claim with the Earthquake Commission (EQC).

Good luck with that, say the people of Christchurch.

As we've reported on recently, nearly two years on from the September 4 earthquake many are still struggling with simply getting what they are entitled to from EQC and their insurance companies.

Yep.. and you think about it.. if you don't pay your premiums on time.. "we'll cancel your policy' or 'we'll get the debt collectors in'.. It's our bloody money that we're entitled to.. PAY OUT and repair our homes. Class action, anyone?

With the two year anniversary of the 1st quake coming up soon, we are STILL WAITING down here in ChCh, so as the article says, "good luck with that". To the rest of NZ - the one thing you can do now (just in case), is pay attention to a local survey in ChCh relating to insurers - IAG (STATE INSURANCE) was voted the worst performer and I believe LUMLEYS was voted one of the best. As soon as I get my claim settled by STATE, I will seriously be looking at dumping them for a company who actually pays out (isn't that what we pay premiums for?)
