Waikato crash claims second victim

A car crash on a Waikato road north of Hamilton last week has claimed a second victim.

The woman, 47, had been in Waikato Hospital since the car in which she was a passenger crashed through a fence at a bend in Old Taupiri Road, near Ngaruawahia, on November 15.

She sustained critical injuries and died from them overnight, police said.

The crash had earlier claimed the life of the driver, 43-year-old Margaret Kingi.

Two boys aged five and seven received minor to moderate injuries and another male passenger suffered minor injuries.

Waikato District road policing manager Inspector Leo Tooman said investigators were still waiting for forensic analysis results to determine if speed and alcohol played a part in the crash.
