For the past few days it's been snow, but now it's huge waves hammering the Hawke's Bay coast.
Houses built along the coast in Haumoana have already been hit by waves about 5m high.
Civil Defence last night was warning of large swells of up to eight metres hitting overnight.
Swells of up to 8m were expected to hit areas including Clifton, Te Awanga and Haumoana last night - and residents were warned they may need to evacuate.
However, a spokesman for Hastings District Council says the swells only reached 3m, and no properties were damaged
Hastings District Council says residents in Clifton, Te Awanga, Haumoana, Ocean Beach and Waimarama should be ready to leave their homes if need be.
