The annual Grey Lynn Festival has been cancelled this year due to bad weather.

The popular event held at Grey Lynn Park was due to take place on Saturday, but organisers announced on their website and Facebook page late yesterday they were pulling the pin on this year’s event due to a high likelihood of rain in Auckland this weekend.

"It has not been an easy decision to make and has not been taken lightly," the organisers posted on Facebook.

"Members of the board have watched the weather satellite and the weather for Saturday has not changed - it is going to rain and a strong wind is going to blow right through the park making it a very miserable day for all participants.

"We are as much in shock and disappointed as you all."

Metservice is predicting strong northwesterlies and rain developing throughout the day.

I am fuming. The arrogance for them to say its only $100 +gst. Might not be much to some but to me (and many others) its nearly half a weeks pension. We don't do markets week in week out all through the year for our health. Look at any farmers market and you will see people selling their produce to eke out low wage or pension. Its a lot to me - especially considering I cancelled my local market to be able to attend. they should be made to refund or set another date - with meagre takings throughout the year we have all been relying on a few good markets leading up to christmas. Where will the money go.

If you havn't already, I would highly recommend visiting their facebook page to see the other side of the story. 600+ very upset small business owners who feel ripped off, with no postponement date, refund offered or stall fees to be rolled over to next years entry. The GLPF Trust have been able to cancel amenities such as staff, waste trucks, security, toilets, tents and yet keep the profit share for themselves. This is not the first time they have done this.
This is very unfair activity for the stall holders and the GLPF have profited at many small business owners expense.

I hope you take the time to empathize with many angry New Zealanders over the actions of 2 profiting individuals representing the trust.

Thank you
