Team New Zealand and the rest of the MedCup yachting fleet had to bide their time in Spain today as the threat of lightning forced racing to be postponed in the season finale.

Team NZ went into the opening day of the regatta at Cartagena holding a commanding 52-point lead, making them odds-on favourites to claim the TP52 series title at their first attempt.

However, after a long wait for the sailors to get started, the weather finally forced organisers to call off racing.

The second day of the five-day regatta is scheduled for tomorrow.
