HEAVY RAIN FOR WAIKATO, THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA AND WESTERN BAY OF
PLENTY
A complex trough is moving across the central North Island today
(Saturday), bringing rain to much of the North Island. The heaviest
falls have been in Waikato, and this rain is expected to ease around
evening. Also, heavy falls are likely about the Coromandel Penisula
and western Bay of Plenty and may be accompanied by thunderstorms. A
further 15-25mm of rain is possible in Waikato on top of what has
already fallen, while 50-70mm is expected for the Coromandel
Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty.
Note: A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH has also been issued for the
Coromandel Peninsula and western Bay of Plenty.
People are advised that this amount of rain has the potential to
cause surface flooding, slips and streams and rivers to rise rapidly.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to ease around evening. In the 3 hours from
3pm to 6pm Saturday, expect a further 15-25mm to accumulate on top of
what has already fallen. Peak intensities could reach 20mm per hour
in a few localities.
AREA/S AFFECTED: THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA AND BAY OF PLENTY, FROM
ROTORUA WESTWARDS
FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to ease this evening. In the 6 hours between
3pm and 9pm Saturday, expect a further 50-80mm to accumulate on top
of what has already fallen with downpours possible associated with
thunderstorms. Peak intensities of 25 to 40mm per hour are possible
in thunderstorms until about 7pm.

Monday: North Island, cloudy periods, with a few drizzle patches in Coromandel and Bay of Plenty. South Island, rain in the west spreading north to Hokitika, drizzle developing further north, cloud increasing in the east, with scattered rain slowly spreading north to southern Marlborough.
Tuesday: North Island, scattered light rain or drizzle developing from Taranaki to Wairarapa southwards, fine spells further north. South Island, rain or drizzle spreading to most places then gradually clearing from the south.
Wednesday: North Island, scattered light rain or drizzle in most places, but mainly fine north of the Bombay Hills, and drizzle clearing from Manawatu to Wellington. South Island, cloudy periods, with patchy drizzle about the northwest ranges, longer fine spells in Otago and Southland.
