URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Bay Of Plenty Rotorua, Westland,
Buller, Nelson, Wairarapa, Wellington, Taranaki, Marlborough

HEAVY RAIN FOR THE RANGES OF EASTERN BAY OF PLENTY.
Unsettled weather is expected over New Zealand until at least the
weekend. A front is moving across northern New Zealand tonight
(Tuesday) and early Wednesday morning and is expected to become
slow-moving for a time from Northland to eastern Bay of Plenty,
before sinking southwards again during Wednesday afternoon and
evening. The heaviest rain is expected to be about the ranges of Bay
of Plenty east of Whakatane, where 90 to 120mm may accumulate from
this evening until tomorrow afternoon.
People are advised that streams and rivers are likely to rise
rapidly, with surface flooding and slips possible.
Warnings are lifted for all other areas, but be aware that many other
areas of the North Island remain on Watch for heavy rain tomorrow and
into Thursday, and some of these regions could be upgraded to a full
warning. This is a developing situation and there is the potential
for high-impact severe weather during the next few days.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to develop in the ranges this evening and
continue until Wednesday afternoon. In the 18 hours between 9pm
Tuesday and 3pm Wednesday, 90 to 120mm of rain may accumulate.
Rainfall intensities could reach 15mm per hour during Wednesday
morning. Further heavy rain is likely during Thursday.

Northland to Wellington, Bay of Plenty and central high country, also Wairarapa: Rain with heavy falls in northern areas, gradually spreading south today, with possible thunderstorms in Northland this evening. Rain clearing from west tomorrow morning and fine spells developing.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Scattered rain in north, spreading south this afternoon, with some heavy falls about East cape, then clearing late tomorrow morning or afternoon.
Nelson and Buller: Fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with rain later.
Westland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods, with isolated showers. Rain developing tomorrow morning with heavy falls, and possible thunderstorms about Fiordland at first.
Marlborough and North Canterbury: Fine.
Southern Canterbury to Southland: Fine today. Cloud increasing tomorrow, with a brief period of showers spreading north.
