URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Northland

PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHLAND
A front just north of Northland is expected to move very slowly south
during Sunday. A moist airmass with gale easterlies and periods of
heavy rain precedes the front. In Northland, bursts of heavy rain
from 9pm Saturday to 6pm Sunday could bring a further 90 to 140mm in
the north and east in addition to rain that has already accumulated.
People are advised that heavy rain can cause rivers to rise rapidly,
with surface flooding possible in low lying areas.

heavy falls, especially in the north and in east. In the 21 hours

Northland: Rain with some heavy falls, and possible downpours this morning. Easterly gales, gusting 110 km/h in exposed places. Conditions easing in north this evening.
Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula: Rain, with some heavy falls. Strong easterlies, rising to gale, gusting 100 km/h in exposed places.
From Waikato and Bay of Plenty to North Taranaki and Taihape: A few showers in western Bay of Plenty at first, but rain spreading south this evening.
From South Taranaki to Wellington: Mainly fine, but cloud increasing today.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Often cloudy with a few showers.
Marlborough, also the Canterbury coast and Plains: Mostly cloudy, with patchy drizzle in Marlborough and about Banks Peninsula.
The remainder of the South Island, also the Chatham Islands: Fine, apart from areas of low cloud or fog morning and night.

Monday: North Island, rain or showers in most places, only a few spots of rain from Wanganui southwards. South Island, drizzle in the east from Banks Peninsula northwards, cloudy periods elsewhere, especially about Nelson and along the east coast.
Tuesday: North Island, occasional showers from Waitomo to Taihape to Bay of Plenty northwards, rain elsewhere clearing, mainly fine from Wanganui to Kapiti. South Island, cloudy periods, mainly in the east, with drizzle in the northeast clearing.
Wednesday: North Island, a few showers from Waitomo to Taihape to Bay of Plenty northwards, mainly fine elsewhere. South Island, cloudy periods, increasing in the south with rain developing about the fiords and scattered rain spreading further east.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods on Monday and Tuesday. A few showers on Wednesday. Easterlies developing on Monday then dying away on Wednesday.
