URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Northland, Coromandel Peninsula, Bay
Of Plenty Rotorua, Gisborne

PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHLAND, COROMANDEL PENINSULA AND EAST
CAPE ON SATURDAY
A subtropical low over the Tasman Sea will move southeastwards across
the upper North Island and East Cape during Saturday, bringing a
period of heavy rain and strong easterly winds. The heaviest falls
are expected about Northland, Coromandel Peninsula and East Cape,
where up to 120mm is likely to accumulate over a 15 hour period.
People in the affected areas are advised that rivers and streams may
rise rapidly, and that surface flooding is possible in locally heavy
downpours.

Rain is expected to become heavy tonight, then ease Saturday
afternoon. In the 15 hours from midnight tonight to 3pm Saturday
expect 80 to 120mm to accumulate. Peak intensities 25 to 40mm/hr in
locally heavy downpours during Saturday morning.
AREA/S AFFECTED: COROMANDEL PENINSULA
FORECAST:
A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday morning and afternoon. In
the 14 hours from 3am to 5pm Saturday expect 70 to 90mm to
accumulate. Peak intensities of 25 to 40mm/hr in locally heavy
downpours.
AREA/S AFFECTED: BAY OF PLENTY EAST OF OPOTIKI, AND GISBORNE NORTH OF
TOLAGA BAY
FORECAST:
A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday afternoon and evening. In
the 12 hours from noon to midnight Saturday, expect 80 to 120mm to
accumulate. Peak intensities of 25 to 40mm/hr in locally heavy
downpours, especially about northern Gisborne.

Waikato to Taranaki, also Taumarunui, Taupo and Hawkes Bay: Overcast with rain spreading south this morning, clearing in the evening.
Wanganui to Wellington, also Taihape and Wairarapa: Dry with high cloudiness.
Nelson, Marlborough and Canterbury: Fine weather.
Buller and Westland: Scattered showers, clearing this morning and becoming mostly fine. However, a few showers returning to Buller in the evening.
Otago, Southland and Fiordland: A few showers about the south coast, spreading inland this morning.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods. A few showers late tomorrow.

Sunday: North Island, scattered showers, but rain from Bay of Plenty to Hawkes Bay at first. South Island, showers and strong cold southerlies spreading from the south, with snow lowering to near sea level in the south and to 400 metres in the north, but mostly fine about Nelson.
Monday: North Island, showers, with snow on high level roads, becoming scattered in the north and west. South Island, showers receding to Southland, Otago and eastern coasts, with snow level gradually lifting, becoming fine elsewhere.
Tuesday: Further showers in the south and east of both Islands,fine or becoming fine elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: Showers developing on Sunday, with strengthening westerlies. Cold and showery with hail and strong or gale westerlies on Monday. Cold with southwest gales and showers, some with hail, on Tuesday.
