URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Hawkes Bay, Gisborne, Wairarapa,
WINDS HAVE EASED ABOUT COASTAL WAIRARAPA, HAWKES BAY AND GISBORNE AND
THE WARNING FOR THESE AREAS IS LIFTED. WESTERLY GALES ARE EXPECTED
ABOUT COASTAL SOUTHLAND, CLUTHA AND DUNEDIN TODAY AND A WATCH FOR
POSSIBLE SEVERE GALES WILL BE MAINTAINED FOR THESE AREAS.
The strong southwest winds that affected coastal parts of Wairarapa,
Hawkes Bay and Gisborne yesterday eased overnight and the warning for
these areas is lifted.
Meanwhile, westerly gales are expected about coastal Southland,
Clutha and Dunedin today and there is still a risk of severe gales in
exposed parts of Foveaux Strait and about the hills and ranges from
the Catlins up to the Otago Peninsula and a WATCH will be maintained
for these areas (see latest Severe Weather Watch for more details).

Northland to Kapiti, including Coromandel and the central high country: Fine, apart from areas of morning and evening cloud.
Bay of Plenty, Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa and Wellington: Fine weather.
Nelson and Marlborough: Fine. Southwesterly gales in exposed places west of Motueka, easing tonight.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Cloudy periods, with patchy drizzle in Fiordland spreading north this afternoon or evening. Fine spells developing tomorrow morning.
Canterbury: Fine weather.
Southland and Otago: Fine in Otago but scattered light rain in Southland, becoming confined to the coast this evening and to Foveaux Strait tomorrow. Brisk westerly winds, gale in exposed coastal areas, easing tonight.
Chatham Islands: Occasional showers, strong cold southwesterlies.
Thursday: North Island, mainly fine, few cloudy periods in the west. South Island, showers developing in west turning to rain in Westland and Fiordland, with scattered falls in the south, fine elsewhere.
Friday: North Island, mainly fine, cloudy periods and a few showers in the west. South Island, rain in the west, elsewhere high cloud with a few spots of rain.
Saturday: North Island, cloudy periods with a few showers in the west. South Island, rain or showers in the west and south clearing, fine with isolated showers developing in the east.
Chatham Islands: Fine spells on Thursday and Friday. Rain developing on Saturday. Strong southwesterlies at times.
