URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Buller, Wellington, Wairarapa
PERIOD OF HEAVY RAIN FOR BULLER AND THE TARARUA RANGE
A front is expected to move north over the South Island during Sunday
and the lower North Island Monday morning. In the west of central New
Zealand, rain associated with the front is likely to intensify from
Sunday evening, bringing a period of significant heavy rain to Buller
and the Tararua Range. 120 to 170mm of rain is expected in the ranges
of Buller from Sunday evening to the early hours of Monday, while 90
to 130mm is likely in the Tararua Range from Sunday night to Monday
People are advised this amount of rain is likely to make rivers and
streams rise rapidly, could cause slips and surface flooding, and
make driving conditions hazardous.

from 2pm Sunday to 5am Monday, 120 to 170mm of rain is expected,
mainly in the ranges. Maximum rainfall intensities of 20 to 25mm/hr
from Sunday evening.

from 7pm Sunday to 10am Monday, 90 to 130mm of rain is expected.

Gisborne and Hawkes Bay: Fine.
Waikato to Kapiti, including the central high country: Mostly cloudy. A few drizzle patches.
Wellington and Wairarapa: Cloudy periods. Drizzle developing about north Wellington and heavy rain for the Tararua Range this evening.
Nelson and Marlborough: Fine at first. Rain developing about the western ranges of Nelson late afternoon, becoming heavy there tonight, with scattered falls spreading further east.
Buller and Westland: A period of rain spreading northwards today, possibly heavy and thundery about Buller.
Fiordland: A few morning showers, then mostly fine.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Cloudy periods and a few showers.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods, with a few late showers.
Tuesday: North Island, Rain north of Waikato, spreading to most places from afternoon, but just scattered falls in the east. South Island, Mainly fine at first, heavy rain developing in the west, with scattered falls in the east, easing later.
Wednesday: North Island, High cloud in the east. Showers elsewhere,some possibly heavy. South Island, Heavy rain in the west, easing later. Showers elsewhere.
Thursday: North Island, A few showers for most places, clearing in the east. South Island, Showers in the south and west, a few showers elsewhere clearing.
Friday: A few showers for most places, easing later, but mainly fine with high cloud inland Canterbury, and Gisborne to Hawkes Bay. Chatham Islands: A few showers and strong southwesterlies on Tuesday,turning to rain overnight with strong northerlies developing.Rain easing to a few showers on Wednesday. A few showers continue through Thursday and Friday with westerlies, strong at times.
