URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Westland, Fiordland
BURST OF HEAVY RAIN FOR THE WESTLAND AND FIORDLAND RANGES ON
A front over the Tasman Sea is forecast to move across Fiordland and
Westland during Saturday, preceded by northerlies and heavy rain. The
heaviest rain is expected in the ranges of Westland and northern
Fiordland, where 90mm is possible over a 9 to 12 hour period during
Saturday morning and afternoon.
People are advised that rivers and streams may rise rapidly, and
slips are possible.

A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday morning and afternoon. In
the 12 hours from 6am to 6pm Saturday, expect 70 to 90mm of rain.
Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm late Saturday morning and afternoon in

AREA/S AFFECTED: FIORDLAND NORTH OF SECRETARY ISLAND
A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday morning. In the 9 hours
from 2am to 11am expect 70 to 90mm to accumulate. Peak intensities 15
to 25mm/hr in possible thunderstorms.
FREEZING LEVEL: About 1600 metres.

For Northland, Auckland north of Whangaparaoa, eastern Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo: Fine spells. A few showers north of the Bay of Plenty, some heavy and possibly thundery in the Far North, spreading farther south tomorrow evening.
For the remainder of the North Island: Mostly fine. A few showers later tomorrow about northern Taranaki, Kapiti and Wellington.
Nelson and northern Marlborough: Fine today. Rain developing tomorrow afternoon, possibly heavy.
Buller and northern Westland: Showers, turning to heavy rain tomorrow afternoon.
Southern Westland, Fiordland: Showers turning to rain tonight, with heavy falls, easing to few showers tomorrow morning.
Southern Marlborough and Canterbury: Fine, with high cloud tomorrow.
Otago and Southland: Mainly fine, but brief rain tomorrow.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods.
Sunday: North Island, cloud increasing for most places, and rain developing in the north and west. Showers south of Kapiti clearing, becoming fine. South Island, rain or showers in the north and west, fine with high cloud elsewhere.
Monday: North Island, rain in the north and west, easing in western areas later, scattered falls elsewhere. South Island, rain in the north and west, easing to a few showers in the north, high cloud and a few spots of rain elsewhere.
Tuesday: North Island, periods of rain for most places. South Island, rain for most places, easing in the west and becoming fine in Fiordland.
Chatham Islands: Cloudy periods and fresh northerlies on Sunday. Cloudy with a few showers and strengthening northerlies on Monday. Rain developing on Tuesday and northeasterlies rising to gale.
