URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Taranaki, Westland, Fiordland

HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTH TARANAKI, WESTLAND AND FIORDLAND
A humid northwesterly flow brings rain to much of the country today
and Monday. The heaviest falls are expected to be about North
Taranaki including the Mountain, and the ranges of Westland and
northern Fiordland. 100 to 200mm is likely during this time,
especially about higher slopes. People in these areas are advised
that rivers and streams may rise rapidly and that slips and surface
flooding are possible.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to continue through to Monday evening. In the
32 hours from 10am Sunday to 6pm Monday expect 150 to 200mm to
accumulate on the Mountain, with 90 to 120mm likely nearer the coast.
Peak intensities of 20 to 30mm/hr likely in thunderstorms, especially
about the Mountain.
AREA/S AFFECTED: WESTLAND SOUTH OF OTIRA
FORECAST:
Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue through to Monday
night. In the 38 hours from 10am Sunday to midnight Monday expect 110
to 140mm to accumulate about the ranges, with 70 to 100mm likely
about the coast. Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm/hr likely in
thunderstorms.

Periods of heavy rain are expected to continue through to Monday
evening. In the 32 hours from 10am Sunday to 6pm Monday expect 100 to

From Waikato to Wellington, including the central high country, also Hawkes Bay south of Napier and Wairarapa: Periods of rain, with some heavy falls, especially about North Taranaki, easing tomorrow evening.
Gisborne and the remainder of Hawkes Bay: Mostly cloudy. A few showers turning to rain for a time tomorrow morning.
Nelson and Marlborough except the Kaikoura Coast: Occasional rain, clearing tomorrow evening.
Kaikoura Coast and Canterbury: Mostly fine. However, a few showers, mainly about the High Country and South Canterbury.
Otago and Southland: Scattered showers with isolated thunderstorms, localised downpours and hail, clearing this evening, but returning tomorrow afternoon.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Periods of rain, sometimes heavy and possibly thundery, easing to a few showers in Fiordland tomorrow evening.

South Island, heavy rain easing to showers in the west and south, a few showers elsewhere with a cool strong southwest change. Westerlies possibly gusting severe gale in the south.
Thursday: North Island, rain or showers for most places, clearin in the east and south. South Island, Showers for most places, clearing in the east north of Christchurch.
Friday: Showers for most of the country.
