URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Westland

HEAVY RAIN FOR SOUTH WESTLAND EASING WEDNESDAY MORNING
Heavy rain in South Westland is expected to ease this morning as a
low crosses eastwards over the South Island. However another 30 to
50mm of rain is likely in the 3 hours from 8am to 11am in the area
south of Ross and north of the Haast River.
This amount of rain could cause slips, surface flooding and rivers
and streams to rise rapidly.

FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected to ease this morning, however in the 3 hours
from 8 to 11am another 30 to 50mm could accumulate about the ranges,
with lesser amounts nearer the coast. This is in addition to the rain
which has already fallen overnight. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm/hr
about the ranges.
FREEZING LEVEL: 1400 metres.

Northland to Taranaki, including Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and the central high country: Showers, some heavy and possibly thundery, easing and becoming isolated tomorrow morning.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay: Mainly fine today. Rain spreading north tomorrow, then clearing in the evening.
Wanganui, Manawatu: Fine spells. A few showers this evening, turning to rain tomorrow morning then clearing tomorrow afternoon.
Kapiti, Wellington, Wairarapa: Occasional showers turning to rain tomorrow morning, then clearing by evening.
Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland: Occasional showers, clearing from Westland and Buller overnight, and elsewhere tomorrow afternoon.
Canterbury: Mostly fine, however scattered showers overnight and tomorrow morning with snow to about 700 metres.
Otago, Southland, Fiordland: Outbreaks of rain, with snow lowering to 600 metres tonight. Clearing morning, however rain for Fiordland tomorrow night.
Chatham Islands : Rain clearing this afternoon. A few showers later tomorrow.

South Island, rain or showers spreading to most places, then mostly clearing, apart from lingering showers in the far south and in Marlborough. Snow lowering to 400 metres in Canterbury, Otago, Southland and Fiordland.
Saturday: North Island, rain or showers easing in the north, and clearing in the east. South Island, rain or showers spreading to most places, snow to 400 metres from Canterbury southwards.
Sunday: North Island, occasional showers, with snow lowering to 500 metres in the far south. South Island, Showers retreating to the south and east coasts and becoming mainly fine elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: A few showers on Friday and Saturday, turning to rain on Sunday. Southwesterlies, tending northwesterly for a time on Friday, then tending northerly on Saturday and and changing strong southwesterly on Sunday.
