URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Westland, Nelson

HEAVY RAIN FOR WESTLAND AND NORTHWEST NELSON
An active front, preceded by strong to gale northerlies, is expected
to move eastwards across the South Island later today and during
Saturday. This front will bring rain to the west and north of the
South Island. The heaviest falls are forecast for Westland during
this evening and Saturday morning where 150mm of rain is expected in
the ranges south of Otira, and for the ranges of northwest Nelson
during Saturday where 100mm of rain is possible. People are advised
this rainfall may cause slips and surface flooding, and rivers and
streams may rise rapdily.

Heavy rain is expected from this evening. In the 19 hours from 5pm
Friday to midday Saturday expect 100 to 150mm of rain in the ranges,
and 60 to 90mm of rain at the coast. Peak intensities of 15 to
20mm/hr in the ranges Saturday morning.
FREEZING LEVEL: About 2000 metres.
AREA/S AFFECTED: THE RANGES OF NORTHWEST NELSON
FORECAST:
Heavy rain is expected from Saturday morning. In the 12 hours from
9am to 9pm Saturday, expect 70 to 100mm of rain. Peak intensities of
15 to 20mm/hr Saturday afternoon and evening.
FREEZING LEVEL: About 2400 metres.

Northland, Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula: Mainly fine. Few showers developing tomorrow evening.
Waikato to Wellington also Bay of Plenty and central high country: Cloudy from Taranaki southwards today, fine elsewhere. Rain spreading north tomorrow afternoon, with heavy falls about Mt Taranaki, clearing Kapiti southwards later.
Gisborne to Wairarapa: Fine today. High cloud increasing tomorrow and scattered rain developing tomorrow afternoon in Wairarapa and a few spots in Hawkes Bay later.
Marlborough, Nelson: Cloud increasing. Rain developing tomorrow morning in Nelson and northern Marlborough, heavy for a time and scattered falls elsewhere, all easing later.
Buller to Fiordland: Rain spreading north today with heavy falls, easing tomorrow.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland: High cloud increasing. Scattered rain developing Dunedin southwards towards evening, and patchy elsewhere, all clearing apart from isolated showers in Southland tomorrow afternoon and low cloud about coastal areas later.

Monday: North Island, rain spreading to most places, but a few showers across Kapiti and Wellington. South Island, fine in the west, and rain or drizzle at times in the east.
Tuesday: North Island, periods of rain, with some heavy falls,easing to showers across Auckland and Northland later. South Island, rain developing in the east from Canterbury northward, and increasing cloudy periods elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: On Sunday, patchy drizzle turning to showers, as fresh northerlies change strong southerly. Showery southerlies on Monday. Becoming fine with northerlies on Tuesday.
