URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Coromandel Peninsula, Gisborne,
Hawkes Bay, Northland
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA, GISBORNE, AND
HAWKES BAY NORTH OF MOHAKA
A low just northeast of the North Island has brought heavy rain to
Northland, Coromandel Peninsula and Auckland. Rain has eased in
Northland, and the warning for Northland has been lifted. Further
rain is forecast for Auckland and Coromandel Peninsula, with intense
rainfall in places this morning, but it should gradually ease there
during the day (Monday). A heavy rain warning remains in force for
Coromandel Peninsula, while a watch will be maintained for Auckland.
The low is now forecast to move southeastwards, with heavy rain
setting in in Gisborne and northern Hawkes Bay, where rain is likely
to persist through Tuesday. Up to 130mm of rain could fall there till
Tuesday morning, with further heavy rain likely after that time.
People are advised that heavy rain can cause rivers to rise rapidly,
with surface flooding possible in low lying areas.

Further rain is expected today. In the 9 hours till 6pm Monday expect
another 30 to 50mm of rain to accumulate. Peak intensities of
15-20mm/hr this morning.
AREA/S AFFECTED: GISBORNE
Rain is setting in this morning. In the 24 hours till 9am Tuesday,
expect 100-130mm of rain to accumulate, mainly about the ranges north
of Tolaga Bay. Note, further rain is expected after this.
AREA/S AFFECTED: HAWKES BAY NORTH OF MOHAKA
Rain is setting in today, with heavy falls likely from afternoon. In
the 24 hours from 3pm Monday till 3pm Tuesday, expect 100-120mm of
rain to accumulate. Note, further rain is expected after this.

HEAVY RAIN WARNINGS HAVE BEEN LIFTED FOR: NORTHLAND
Heavy rain has eased, and the warning has been lifted.

Auckland, Waikato, Coromandel Peninsula: Rain clearing overnight. Fine spells tomorrow, with isolated afternoon showers in Auckland and Waikato.
Waitomo, North Taranaki, Taumarunui, Taupo, Bay of Plenty: Remaining rain clearing this evening. Fine spells tomorrow.
South Taranaki, Wanganui, Manawatu: Mostly cloudy. Patchy light rain tomorrow afternoon.
Horowhenua Kapiti Coast, Wellington: Mostly fine, however isolated showers about Wellington clearing tonight.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Taihape: Rain, with heavy falls, in Gisborne and Hawkes Bay. Scattered light rain for Wairarapa and Taihape.
Marlborough: Fine, apart from morning and evening coastal drizzle.

Wednesday: North Island, rain or showers in the east becoming confined to the ranges. Fine elsewhere apart from isolated afternoon showers over Central Plateau. South Island, mainly fine, some morning cloud or fog in the east and cloudy periods about the fiords and Stewart Island.
Thursday: Rain developing in the north of the North Island and drizzle about Stewart Island. Mainly fine elsewhere.
Friday: North Island, rain spreading to most places, easing to few showers from Northland to Coromandel Peninsula. South Island,mainly fine in the west and some drizzle elsewhere.
Chatham Islands: Fine spells Wednesday and Thursday with easterly breezes. Mostly cloudy on Friday with easterlies freshening.
