URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Westland, Fiordland

BURST OF HEAVY RAIN FOR THE WESTLAND AND FIORDLAND RANGES ON
SATURDAY.
A front over the Tasman Sea is forecast to move across Fiordland and
Westland during Saturday, preceded by northerlies and heavy rain. The
heaviest rain is expected in the ranges of Westland and northern
Fiordland, where 90mm is possible over a 9 to 12 hour period during
Saturday morning and afternoon.
People are advised that rivers and streams may rise rapidly, and
slips are possible.

A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday morning and afternoon. In
the 12 hours from 6am to 6pm Saturday, expect 70 to 90mm of rain.
Peak intensities of 15 to 25mm late Saturday morning and afternoon in
possible thunderstorms.
FREEZING LEVEL: About 1800 metres.

FORECAST:
A period of heavy rain is expected Saturday morning. In the 9 hours
from 2am to 11am expect 70 to 90mm to accumulate. Peak intensities 15
to 25mm/hr in possible thunderstorms.
FREEZING LEVEL: About 1600 metres.

Northland: Cloudy periods and a few showers, some heavy and possibly thundery in the Far North.
Auckland, Coromandel, Bay of Plenty and Taupo: Fine spells. Isolated showers about Auckland and Coromandel, mainly in the east, spreading to Bay of Plenty and Taupo this evening.
Waikato to Wellington, including Taihape, also Gisborne to Wairarapa: Mostly fine, but cloudy periods and a few showers about northern Taranaki, Kapiti and Wellington.
Nelson and the Marlborough Sounds: Cloud increasing, and showers developing this morning.
Remainder of Marlborough, and Canterbury: High cloud increasing, with a few spots of rain from afternoon.
Otago and Southland: Scattered rain spreading north this morning, clearing during afternoon then mainly fine.
Buller to Fiordland: Rain spreading north, heavy and possibly thundery at times, easing in Fiordland and south Westland this afternoon.
