URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Westland, Nelson, Taranaki
HEAVY RAIN FOR WESTLAND, NORTHWEST NELSON AND MOUNT TARANAKI
An active front, preceded by strong moist northerlies, moves
eastwards across the South Island today and the North Island during
Sunday. This front has already brought heavy rain to the west of the
South Island, and another 90mm is possible about the ranges of
Westland south of Otira until mid-afternoon. Rain becomes heavier
about the ranges of northwest Nelson this morning, and 100mm may
accumulate there through to this evening. In addition, a burst of
heavy rain is expected about Mount Taranaki from this evening through
to Sunday morning, with 90mm expected to accumulate on higher slopes.
People are advised this rainfall may cause slips and surface
flooding, and rivers and streams may rise rapidly.

Heavy rain is expected to ease this afternoon. In the 6 hours from
9am to 3pm today, expect another 70 to 90mm of rain to accumulate in
the ranges, with 30 to 50mm nearer the coast. Peak intensities of 15
to 20mm per hour in the ranges.
FREEZING LEVEL: 2000 metres.
AREA/S AFFECTED: THE RANGES OF NORTHWEST NELSON
Heavy rain is expected to ease this evening. In the 12 hours from 9am
to 9pm today, expect 70 to 100mm of rain to accumulate. Peak
intensities of 15 to 20mm per hour this afternoon and evening.
FREEZING LEVEL: 2400 metres.
AREA/S AFFECTED: MOUNT TARANAKI
Heavy rain is expected from this evening through to early Sunday
morning. In the 9 hours from 6pm today to 3am Sunday, expect 70 to
90mm to accumulate. Peak intensities of 15 to 20mm per hour.

Northland: Periods of rain, with heavy falls.
Auckland down to Wellington, including Bay of Plenty and the central high country, also Wairarapa: Rain easing to isolated showers this morning, clearing in Wellington. However, low cloud and drizzle developing in Wellington and Wairarapa tonight.
Gisborne and Hawkes Bay : Scattered rain, clearing this morning and becoming mainly fine apart from isolated afternoon and evening showers.
Nelson and Marlborough: Fine.
Buller, Westland and Fiordland: Showers, clearing Westland northwards this afternoon and elsewhere later.
Canterbury, Otago and Southland: Low cloud and patchy rain spreading north.
Chatham Islands: Rain developing this morning, easing to showers later.
Monday: North Island, low cloud and drizzle Manawatu southwards and rain spreading elsewhere by evening. South Island, fine in the west, and low cloud and drizzle in the east.
Tuesday: North Island, rain, with some heavy falls,easing to showers across Northland later. South Island, rain developing in the east from Canterbury northward, and increasing cloudy periods elsewhere.
Wednesday: North Island, rain, with some heavy falls,but showers from Auckland northwards. South Island, rain with some heavy falls in the east, with a few spots spreading across Westland and Buller, and mainly fine in Fiordland.
Chatham Islands: Showers with strong southerlies on Monday, becoming mainly fine with northerlies on Tuesday. Cloud increasing later Tuesday, with rain and strong easterlies developing early Wednesday.
