URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST IN: Northland, Coromandel Peninsula
PERIODS OF HEAVY RAIN FOR NORTHLAND AND THE COROMANDEL PENINSULA
A front just north of Northland is expected to move very slowly south
today (Sunday) and Monday. A moist airmass with easterly gales and
periods of heavy rain precedes this front. In Northland, bursts of
heavy rain until later this evening could bring a further 60 to 90mm
in the north and east, on top of the significant amount of rain that
has already fallen. In addition, bursts of heavy rain are expected
about the Coromandel Peninsula from this afternoon until Monday
afternoon, where 90 to 120mm may accumulate.
People are advised that heavy rain can cause rivers to rise rapidly,
with surface flooding possible in low lying areas.

Bursts of heavy rain are expected to continue in Northland until this
evening, especially in the north and in east. In the 12 hours from
9am to 9pm today (Sunday) expect a further 60 to 90mm of rain on top
of what has already fallen. Peak intensities of 10 to 15mm/hr, easing
later this afternoon.
AREA/S AFFECTED: COROMANDEL PENINSULA
Bursts of heavy rain are expected from later this afternoon (Sunday),
until Monday afternoon. In the 22 hours from 4pm this afternoon until
2pm Monday afternoon expect 90 to 120mm to accumulate. Peak
intensities 10 to 15mm/hr tonight and Monday morning. Note: Showers
are expected to persist about the area until Tuesday morning.

Northland, Auckland, Coromandel Peninsula: Rain, with some heavy falls. Easterly gales, gusting 100 km/h in exposed places. Rain easing to showers Monday morning, and winds easing.
Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui, Taupo, Bay of Plenty: Mostly fine with high cloud at first, however scattered rain developing overnight. Rain clearing Monday afternoon.
Taranaki to Wellington, including Taihape: Mostly fine, but rain developing in Taihape during Monday.
Gisborne, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa: Scattered showers, turning to rain north of Wairarapa Monday, with some heavy falls about the Gisborne ranges.
Marlborough, also the Canterbury coast and Plains: Long fine spells, but cloudy morning and night, with patchy drizzle in Marlborough.
