It has been a varied and colourful Winter Festival so far this year in Queenstown.

The 2012 American Express Queenstown Winter Festival is now entering its last days, but organisers are still expecting large crowds this weekend.

Some of the festival’s most popular events are still to come, including the annual Mardi Gras in downtown Queenstown on Sunday afternoon.

Festival director says the timing of the Mardi Gras has changed from recent years.

“Following feedback from the community we have moved the Mardi Gras to Sunday afternoon-evening to enable as many families and local workers as possible to attend. Mardi Gras is going to be a great way to send off what has so far been a great festival.’’

Other events yet to take place include the Mountain Scene Thriller in the Chiller - a charity boxing fight - and the Air New Zealand Mountain Mayhem event, both on Saturday.

The festival will end after ten days on July 1.
