Rugby World Cup fever has well and truly arrived in New Zealand.

Towns and cities up and down the country have spruced themselves up, with many adopting visiting teams as well.

But in the central King Country they have gone a step further: Not only have they changed their town's decorations, they have also changed their town's name.

Take a drive up Te Kuiti's main street and you will notice some unusual shop signs. There's Pinetree Xchange - formerly known as the bank, and Meadacine - formerly known as the pharmacy.

Typical pakeha thinking. Is Te Kuiti too Maori sounding? Just like up the road in Te Awamutu. For some reason pakeha call it 'The Rosetown' because there's a dinky little rose garden in the town. There's no discussion with Maori because pakeha think their ideas are best and 'hey, what's all the fuss about ya whingeing bunch of Maoris'. Come to Kihikihi where all the streets are named after soldiers of all ranks involved in killing our ancestors and confiscating their lands. How lovely to go down Cameron Street or Whitmore or Lyon in a predominantly Maori town with not one street with a Maori name. Stand hard Te Kuiti whanau! Don't let these clowns whakaiti te mana o Te Kuititanga!

Those who supported the change of name should be ashamed of themselves, this is prostituting the sacred name of Te Kuiti the land of the Ngati Maniapoto Tribe.

This is a disgrace trampling on the mana of my ancestors who donated this sacred town of Te Kuiti for the welfare, education and enjoyment of all who live in her. I am incensed at the actions of the Waitomo District Council. I have made enquiries and there appears to have been no permission sought from the Maniapoto tribe to this action.

yeah its 1 cool to advertise meadsville in Te Kuiti town but its ANOTHER TO CHANGE THE TOWN SIGN TO WELCOME TO MEADSVILLE THAT'S A WHAKAITI MANA TO OUR RANGATIRA NAME OF TE KUITITANGA O NGAA WHAKAARO !!!!

Nice story on 'Meadsville' and way to go Te Kuiti!
Great to see Colin and Stan 2m high in the main street - brilliant idea and pleased that these two great All Blacks are receiving sime time in the limelight.
