Organisers of the Wellington Sevens have banned spectators from wearing nothing but G-strings and mankinis.

The exception is if you wear them over more modest clothing.

"People are creative and original and we encourage that, but we don't want people wearing G-strings," says sevens general manager Steve Walters.

"They might make some people feel uncomfortable."

Also banned is dressing like a security guard, high-visibility vests and bringing weapons.

Anyone dressed inappropriately will be asked to take it off – or, more likely, put something on.

Oh joy - the sevens are back!!! Drunk idiots fill the city all day Friday before pouring themselves into the stadium, then leave the city awash with their vomit and throw away toys handed to them at the stadium all along the waterfront and in the harbour. We ready know how to control our liquor consumption in this country. Be nice to one day see people having fun without the need to tank themselves up first.
