Firefighters have been battling two large house fires in Wellington this evening.
About 16 firefighters were called to a house blaze in Tawa, north of central Wellington, about 7.40pm, a Fire central communications spokeswoman told NZ Newswire.
Two people were injured - one suffered smoke inhalation and the other received minor burns.
About half an hour later, just after 8pm, about 24 firefighters were called to a fire which had engulfed a two-storey house in Highbury.
No injuries had been reported at the second fire.
Brigades are still working to put out both blazes.
