West of Memphis is described by the filmmakers as an examination of a failure of justice in Arkansas.
The documentary is a new examination of the notorious ‘West Memphis Three’ case made famous by Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky’s Paradise Lost films.
West of Memphis is told and made partly by those who lived it, giving the filmmakers unprecedented access to the inner workings of the defence. It is said to show the investigation, research and appeals process in a way that has never been seen before; revealing shocking and disturbing new information about a case that still haunts the American South.
West of Memphis is produced by Sir Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh and Damien Echols and directed by Amy Berg.
The film premieres at this year’s Sundance Film Festival.
