Wellington's Weta Digital has been blown away by a Golden Globes win for The Adventures of Tintin.
The
film, directed by Steven Spielberg and produced by Sir Peter Jackson,
won best animated feature film at the awards in Los Angeles on Monday.
Weta
Digital was tasked with bringing the famous comic book characters by
Herge to life for the film with designs and digital work.
The Adventures of Tintin is the first in a trilogy planned by Spielberg and Sir Peter.
Weta
Digital's senior visual effects supervisor Joe Letteri told Radio New
Zealand the win was a surprise as there were a lot of good animated
films in 2011, but he believes Tintin deserves the award.
"I think it's just a really great picture. I've just enjoyed working on it and I'm really happy that it's got the recognition.
Letteri says performance capture was used in a way it had never been utilitsed before in the film.
"It's a new form of animation - it's something I'm glad that people are getting excited about," he says.
"It really just opens up a whole lot of new doors for doing some interesting films."
Letteri already has four Academy Awards to his name, for his work on Avatar, the Lord of the Rings movies and King Kong.
