Japanese whalers apparently have a new technique to get rid of environmental activists - dropping iron grappling hooks on their inflatable boat.

Three members of the Sea Shepherd group were injured in the latest conflict in the Southern Ocean.

But captain of the Steve Irwin, Paul Watson, says they've managed to disrupt the whaling season, and the whalers are getting frustrated:

"We're confident it's not going to be a very good season for them, but they're getting increasingly more angry and more aggressive," he says.

More confrontations are expected as the activists continue to pursue the whalers.

Why does 3News always take on a pro Watson bias? There have been no instances where the Japanese have pursued and engaged the protest boats directly. All contacts have been by Watson's mob and the Japanese have been very restrained in repulsing the protestors. Putting up anti boarding nets and using water jets are defensive. Throwing glass bottles with butric acid or paint is aggressive and dangerous. Trying to disable ships by dragging cables into propellers and rudders is extremely dangerous and highly illegal. All this and more shows that 3News constantly tries to whitewash the SS actions. This is not good reporting and puts other 3News material in doubt by association.

It says nowhere in any Maritime Laws that the Japanese alone are not allowed to put another vessels crew members in danger of being lost at sea.

If you think about it then you would realise it is also up to the SSCS not to put the crew of the Japanese Ships at danger at sea and for them to stop what they are doing.

and, of course, they know no one official would do a damn thing about it anyway.

Read the report on one news. Apparently the SSCS have been trying to foul propellors with ropes and cables and have also been throwin bottles of what could be paint (blood?) at the Japanese. They are also reportedly using ropes with iron weights at bot ends. It makes no sense for the Japanese to use grappling hooks and push the sscs away with bamboo poles. If anything grappling hooks would be used to capture the small boat and arrest the occupants for Piracy on the High Seas. Come on 3 lets have full reporting on these Pirates not just selective comments. The SSCS action is titled "Kamikaze" - Divine Wind - which would suggest that SSCS are going to do Kamikaze type attackjs on the Japanese and maybe lose their lives - just shows how stupid they are. Sink the SSCS and get the Japanese round a negotiating table - stop putting lives at risk in the Southern Oceans

The Japanese continue to act illegally. What are the Japs prepared to do if they sink one of these inflatable boats? are they prepared to rescue any inflatable crew that end up in the water? according to international maritime laws. The Japs are not allowed to put another vessels crew member in danger of being lost at sea.
