The man accused of murdering a Whangarei woman can now be named.

James Akuhata, 29, appeared in Whangarei District Court on Wednesday.

He's charged with the murder of 21-year-old Ashlee Louise-Anne Edwards, whose body was found about 2am on Friday in the Waiarohia stream.
