Depends you have 2 sets of rightsa) Rights granted by law under Crimes Act 1961, you can defend yourself and others with reasonable level of force as YOU feel necessary to protect your life.b) Rights the police think you should have (ie curl up in a ball and take a beating) and then prosecute you for fighting back with anything more than harsh words. The police and how they enforce the law is creating victims in 2 ways.1) encouraging people not to fight back for fear of prosecution2) financially ruining people in court by forcing them to justify the force used to protect themselves.
