What do Scotsmen wear under their kilts?

The age old question: What do Scotsmen wear under their kilts?

Obviously I'm not here to explore the solution to this, because there is a far more important question to be answered!

What do brides wear under their dresses?!

The reason this question is at the forefront of my mind is because it has suddenly dawned on me, five and a bit months out from the wedding, that I currently have nothing suitable to wear under my dress.

Traditionally, I suspect you'd wear a suitable torsolette or strapless bra, and some manner of fancy undies to surprise your new husband on the wedding night. But it seems tradition has given way to practicality, especially with the increase in slinky dresses and less than forgiving fabrics (and somehow my dress encompasses both – how did I manage that?).

Every bride wants to look her best on the big day, and if the chosen dress doesn't hide any lumps and bumps, or is particularly flimsy and reveals the dreaded VPL, other options must be explored! I've read numerous accounts of brides who've worn the full bosom to thigh hold it all in undies, a la Bridget Jones. Although I'm not quite sure where that leaves you when it comes to 'the big reveal' later in the evening with the groom!

So I've decided to get sensible about this, with the hope of avoiding the above mentioned Bridget Jones undies. I'm officially in full exercise and healthy eating mode (I refuse to call it a diet). Until Saturday just gone, I hadn't even had a sneaky bit of chocolate all month! And for the first time in 24 odd months I've resumed regular exercise, all be it in the comfort of my own lounge (do remember that I have a 1 year old son!).

While the number on the scales is only a teeny tiny bit less than it was at the start of the month, I've noticed a definite difference in the way my clothes fit (which is far more important than some stupid number anyway). And although my workmates are less than supportive (regular trips to Subway and chocolate and fizzy drink runs are frequently on offer), I think I can make real progress before the big day if I resist temptation and keep this up!

I'm not the only one hoping to be in tip top shape for the big day – the members of my immediate family have also started on a similar plan with awesome results so far.

So I'm parking plans to go shopping for something special to wear under my dress – for now at least!

I'm a 24 year old Wellingtonian preparing to marry my partner in crime on 30 Jan 2010.  In 2008 we got engaged, bought our first house and had our first child.  Instead of having 2009 off to recover, we're throwing ourselves head-first into wedding planning!  Did I mention we're trying to do it all for under 10K!?
