On the June 20 this year, an Emperor penguin stepped ashore on Peka Peka beach.

And for the last two months he has enjoyed international celebrity status and received tens of thousands of dollars in donations.

There have been detractors who say it is all been a waste of money. So what have we learnt from Happy Feet?

He left an hour ago for the Ross Sea but Whena Owen looks back on the Happy Feet show.

Can you believe that Linklater guy. A few more Happy Feet and a few less pointy heads would make the world a much better place.

there is a possibility that Happy Feet turned up on distant shores because his home environment is changing and in trouble. Imagine that it could be a lack of food could have brought him here. His appearance here should actually raise awareness that the southern oceans need protecting and the time do do so is running out rapidly. If we could get all of Happyfeets fans to work on lowering their carbon foot prints much would be gained. Overfishing is the other big problem that needs more awareness and more action.
