Ah honey, NZ wouldn't be a country without Auckland. It would be one big backward town like the one you're from.

Think of all the jobs it would create for the rebuild! And it could lower unemployment!The unions could take a protest to the volcanoes for their threatening union jobs, as protests work!

I think they should grit their teeth and go with the flow (so to speak) Do you really want to be swamped with hordes of JAFA's turning up in your town expecting to sleep on your couch.

The way our traffic grid locks at peak hour we would all be buggered if we had to leave because of a disaster. I think the idea would be to stay put and wait it out if you are at a safe distance from a volcano. It's as they say not a matter of if but when. Auckland is getting off too lightly with all the natural disasters happening around the country, sadly to say I don't think we will miss out, it just hasn't happened yet. Just being realistic. Movement is slowly coming this way.
