Auckland Zoo is celebrating the birth of a very special and very cute new arrival.
At birth he was taller than most human adults, and he weighed the same as around 16 newborn babies.
And at just three days old, he already stands over 1.8m tall.
And don't be fooled by the heart-melting eyes and svelte frame - when he dropped into the world on Friday morning, he already weighed 55kg.
The new addition to Auckland Zoo is a giraffe.
"A giraffe birth is one of the most amazing births that you could ever see," says giraffekeeper Nat Sullivan. "They fall from a great height. They don't sit down to give birth, so it's between a three and four-foot drop for the calf, so it's a bit of a thud into the world, and the calf is up and walking within half an hour. So it's absolutely amazing to see, a six-foot tall baby up and walking within half an hour of being born."
For mum Rukiya, it's the end of a 15-month pregnancy. She and partner Zabulu have already had two other offspring, but this one was the easiest.
"In the past we've had to assist Rukiya when she's had to give birth, but this time she did it all naturally and didn't need our help, so it all went really well. Took a little bit longer than a lot of other births, but she got there in the end."
Dad Zubulu this morning got nose-to-nose with his young calf, and it went really well. He gave him a few kisses on the head.
The calf is the 29th giraffe to be born in the zoo, but it'll be another few weeks until the public get to see him.
"Mum and calf probably won't come out for another couple of weeks," says Ms Sullivan. "We'll just wait for mum to feel nice and comfortable. We'll do what she would do in the wild, and we'll allow her to hide the calf for a couple of weeks."
The calf will eventually be relocated to another zoo as part of an Australasian breeding programme.
