Where will the people of Chch go?

We come to you tonight live from Burwood, and the home of Margaret and Harry Hills.

The Hills built the house themselves, forty-five years ago.

But they may not be able to stay much longer.

And there are many thousands of people in their position, throughout the earthquake ravaged parts of Christchurch.

Where will they go?

Clearly, they'll need somewhere to live.

And clearly, the new homes will need to be safe, warm and comfortable.

But family homes, with gardens and drive ways and a history like the Hills have here, take a long time to build.

So, tonight we ask where will the people go in the years while the future is built.

Alistair Thompson was shafted. I'm pretty disgusted actually. When you see the full interview closely followed by Campbell Live's newsclip, it is clear Thompson has been totally misrepresented. It can only be described as Tabloid TV somewhere near the bottom of the totem pole just above the gutter. Thompson and/or the EMA should sue for defamation of character.

Wendyll Nissan admitted on radio she took time off when she worked at the Auckland Star using her period as an excuse. She also made offensive and sexist comments about men not being able to handle a period. The journalist who interviewed Thompson said she had 3 children and she took time off work because of this. That is the reality which she acknowledges is true. She also said Campbell Live paid her less despite being more productive than others. Thompson said in the part of the interview that was not screened that that was not fair and she should talk to her employer Campbell live, which it appears is discriminating against her. Shame on tham!

Houses like this should be fixed up. Why are they bothering in town at the moment. Its already broken.Close town off and get into the suburbs and help fix peoples homes is what they should be doing. In feb we had a 6.3 and people were going from door to door to check on homes and in June we have a 6.3 and nothing gets dune. I know im getting worried bout how much more my house will take before it comes down on me and my family. Being at home all day alone with my 5 month old is very scary now.

Has anyone thought about the ability to recycle so much from houses that will need to be demolished. Roof tiles, trusses, windows/doors, pink batts, timber, joinery etc. It seems such a waste to put a bulldozer through the lot. There would be a lot of materials that could be salvaged and used around NZ. I suppose its the manpower required to take things to pieces bit by bit and then the storage of it? We are a recycling nation.
