A Northland farmer who sexually attacked women during a whisky-fulled night of partying has been ordered to give money to the Salvation Army after a court was told it would cost too much to compensate the many victims.
The man, whose name was suppressed, was found guilty at Whangarei District Court of seven charges of indecent assault, The Northern Advocate reported.
While at a get-together at a Whangarei house before a Warriors league game, the man rubbed a woman's leg, groped, kissed and bear-hugged women and put his hands down their pants, the Northern Advocate reported.
He also forced a woman onto a bed and committed indecent acts on her.
He then moved to another party where he indecently assaulted other women, including a 14-year-old who he slapped on the bottom.
Whangarei District Court judge Alan Roberts suggested that the man pay $1000 reparation to each of his victims but his lawyer, Eb Leary, said this too much money.
So Judge Roberts instead ordered him to pay $3500 to the Salvation Army, as the victims were not interested in reparation to compensate them for emotional harm.
