A 1987 video has been unearthed featuring a 25-year-old squash-playing, accountancy graduate John Key.

The bright-eyed Mr Key features in an early Close-Up story called Big Dealers.

The “portrait of 80s job du jour: foreign exchange dealer”, shows the now Prime Minister in “the pit” (trading room) as a senior forex dealer.

“Forex dealing is a work hard, play hard world with an image of rich brats who wreck restaurants but always somewhere else,” says the reporter.

“I am not denying that, that has happened and I guess that will happen again in the future but I personally perform in that way,” Mr Key responded.

Watch the full 1987 video featuring “the super bright, young, whizz-kids dealing in millions everyday with a personal lifestyle to match”.

After watching that, I think you have to respect this man who seems very humble and extremely hard working. How many 25 year olds are that well adjusted?

Might pay to check your transcription - says he wouldn't perform in that way - not would - as you say - doesn't make sense what you wrote anyway

Nice misquote Ms Harris. I believe in the video Mr Key states he 'personally wouldn't perform in that way' . . .

I feel a torrent of jealous left wingers hitting this site. Good article TV3, at least we now know that some people, if the have the tenacity, can get out of the welfare dependency life style and do something with their lives.
Well done John (although you do worry me with some of your ministerial decisions - especially lately)!!!
