The politicians are back in business today as the Prime Minister announces his Cabinet reshuffle.

Speaker Lockwood Smith is off the UK to take up the High Commissioner role, and it's expected current Minister of Primary Industries and Local Government David Carter will be named as his replacement.

Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson is also in the running, and is said to be Labour's favourite – so who will Parliament choose?

3 News political editor Patrick Gower says it's the worst-kept secret in Parliament that Nick Smith will be back in Cabinet and Mr Carter will take over the Speaker role. But there's no guarantee Dr Smith will get his environmental portfolio back.
