Last month New Zealand lost 3,200 residents to Australia - the biggest number for July since monthly records began.
In the past year more than 30,000 New Zealanders moved across the ditch, that's the largest exodus in three years.
Many packed their bags in search of a brighter future, and why not? There's better weather, higher pay, and cheaper living costs.
But research being gathered by community leaders and welfare centres suggests New Zealanders who move to Australia risk finding themselves broke, desperate, even homeless.
They're warning those considering emigrating to go with money and a plan.
